Speech/Language Therapy

Following standardized assessment, our SLPs will develop an individualized plan to target specific skills that are impaired which may include speech sound production, word finding skills, language comprehension, written language, and fluency.

Michiana Speech Lab’s team is also experienced with alternative and augmentative communication (AAC) and auditory processing disorder (APD).

About AAC

AAC is sometimes necessary when an individual is unable to verbally express their wants and needs successfully. It encompasses all of the ways that an individual communicates aside from talking. Individuals of all ages can utilize AAC if he/she has trouble with speech or language skills.

Various progressive diseases, such as ALS, as well as stroke or other forms of brain injury may result in temporary or permanent loss of voice and verbal speech abilities. Several high and low tech alternative communication options are available to ensure continued communication.

About APD

APD results in difficulty understanding the sounds one hears, as it affects the part of the brain that processes auditory information. Those with APD may have trouble in school, at work, at home, and in social settings. They may not follow directions, or they may give the wrong answers to questions.

The cause of (APD) is sometimes unknown. However, it can be linked to neurological conditions such as stroke and brain injury.
